We had so much fun at our fall fest on Saturday! We couldn't have asked for better weather and the kids all had a blast! From searching through the hay pile for the letters in their name, to playing in the corn pile or bouncing the day away in the bounce house, fun was had by all! We thank each of our families for bringing their little ones out to enjoy this festivity with us! We can't wait until next fall!

We just completed our unit on Hibernation. We enjoyed learning which animals hibernate and where we would find them. We made a bear sleeping in his cave and we tried to get berries out of ice to demonstrate how difficult it is for the animals to gather food to eat. We are now moving unto holiday festivities and learning all about Gingerbread Men!
Guess I'll go eat WORMS!" We have enjoyed learning about worms this last week! We learned how they moved, eat dirt to make tunnels, and how important they are to the roots of the plants. We investigated worms while out playing, played with "worms" for a sensory activity, and made worms using our linking blocks. We even found out how delicious "Worms" could be! Yesterday we enjoyed reading a book called "Diary of a Worm" By Doreen Cronin. I found it quite funny! We have been trying hard to take advantage of the nice weather! We have been playing in the yard and relaxing in the sun. We took our lessons outside and played in soil and opened up "helicopters" to take out the seeds. We were lucky to find a few that were starting to sprout so we were able to see how the plant was growing right out of the seed. During our walk this morning we found worms, an inch worm, walnuts, acorns, tree bark and many flowers! As the kids nap, the weather is now changing from warm and sunny to rainy once again! Bummer! We hope you had a chance to get outside too!
The weather is finally warming up and we are enjoying playing outside! To top that off, our next curriculum box has arrived! Always exciting when the new box arrives! I love looking through our daily activity bags and seeing all the fun activities we have in store! This next unit focuses on growing gardens. We will learn about what is needed to successfully grow a plant, the different parts of a plant, investigate a variety of vegetables and we will learn about a few animals that you could find in a garden. I can't wait!
We ended up at the Target in Chili the other day and found many different felt boards in the front specials/discounted area. They were $3 for the smaller ones and $5 for the wall ones. I picked up this shape matching one and a few that work on numbers/colors recognition and a beginning sounds board. I did find one that was a map of the USA and had the children place which site goes to which state - Las Vegas, Mount Rushmore etc. And now as a shout out to my home town... the Mystic Seaport was chosen as one of the sites!!!!
Today we visited Russia and learned about St Basil's Cathedral. We practiced making our shapes and added them to our block towers and then we made a Cathedral Collage. Boy, did we practice our cutting skills today!
When you are learning about waterfalls you play in the water! This week the kids had fun using cups, spoons and cutting boards to make waterfalls. We also used droppers with paint and discovered how to turn our papers to make a waterfall pictures.
The last couple of weeks we were learning about all the things that you can buy at the market while traveling. We spent time learning about rugs, masks, lanterns, a drum and a kite. Each day, we did learning activities that revolved around each item. We also made a lot of Make and Play activities including our own drum, a lantern, we stitched a rug and made a mask.
One minute we are thinking spring is right around the corner and then Mother Nature decides to bless us with more snow. Maybe if I decorate for spring, it will come soon! To help beat our cabin fever we went on a bear hunt! youtu.be/KAT5NiWHFIU What fun we had! Something new and exciting and quite the workout. Who knew Yoga would make you sore the next day! Lol!
